Ireland’s Bertram Allen capped a rewarding 24 hours at the Sweden International Horse Show CSI4* aboard his veteran mount Molly Malone; together, the pair won the €231,999 Sweden Grand Prix presented by H&M, their second win in a row.
On Saturday, November 27, 2016, they took first prize in the Volkswagon Cup CSI4*, completing the fastest of seven clear rounds ahead of Nicola Philippaerts of Belgium. With that win, Allen earned a brand new Volkswagon Tiguan along with the first place prize money check.
Not to be outdone, Allen and the 12-year-old AES mare (Kannan x Cavalier) returned to the main ring on Sunday afternoon, and proceeded to jump a winning double clear in the Sweden Grand Prix CSI4* presented by H&M. They came out ahead of Switzerland’s Janika Sprunger aboard her Olympic partner Bonne Chance, who was clear but for a time fault in the two round competition.
Sprunger’s partner Piergiorgio Bucci of Italy followed up in 3rd place aboard Casallo Z. The competition had a short entry list of just 18 pairs, giving Allen a clear path to victory and the prize of a second Volkswagon vehicle.
And he wasn’t done receiving prizes yet. For his efforts, Allen was named leading international rider of the show, and given as a prize yet another car. That brings his total number of vehicles won in two days of riding to three cars.
Even more impressive—Allen was repeating the feat at this same show last year, where he also cleaned up in competition and also, won three cars.
