The British Team has been confirmed for the 2014 Alltech World Equestrian Games in Normandy. Young Spencer Roe will join the team as one of the youngest riders to attend the World Equestrian Games, along with Ireland’s Bertram Allen. After a terrific double clear from Roe and his mount Wonder Why at the final Furusiyya Nations Cup event in Dublin, Ireland this past week, it was clear the young talent should join the team in Normandy. This will be Roe’s first international competition of such a nature, making the World Equestrian Games his international representative debut. The team will consist of;
- Scott Brash – Hello Sanctos
- Ben Maher – Cella
- Joe Clee – Utamaro d’Ecaussines
- Spencer Roe – Wonder Why
- Michael Whitaker – Amai or Viking
Both Scott Brash and Ben Maher will ride their winning mounts from the European Championships last year. Ben Maher and Jane Clark’s Cella won Individual Silver while World No.1 Scott Brash and WBFSH Rankinsg leader Hello Sanctos, owned by Lord & Lady Kirkham and Lord & Lady Harris, won Individual Bronze. Michael Whitaker joined Maher and Brash with his mount Viking, as all three won Team Gold for Great Britain at the European Championships in Denmark. Following the news that Nick Skelton and Big Star would not join the British Squad, due to a recurring injury sustained by the well-regarded stallion, Team coach Rob Hoekstra was required to make adjustments.
