A very strong field of riders took part in the €350,000 GLOCK’s Grand Prix CSI5* in Treffen, Austria in Sunday, June 19th, closing a top level competition weekend at the Glock Horse Performance Center.
It was the Longines FEI World Ranked No. 3, Christian Ahlmann of Germany who took home the biggest prize of the weekend riding the 12-year-old Belgian breed stallion Epleaser van’t Heike (For Pleasure X Nabab de Reve).
“I really stepped it up right from the start in the jump-off,” Ahlmann said. “Winning in the GLOCK’s 5* Grand Prix is the perfect end to a perfect tournament. We riders, the horses and everybody involved feel very happy here. Conditions couldn’t be any better and I would like to thank the Glock family cordially on behalf of all the riders.”
Ahlmann was second to go in the 12-horse jump off and the one getting closest to his time of 45.08 seconds was his compatriot Daniel Deusser in 45.12 seconds riding the 11 year-old Belgian gelding First Class van Eeckelghem (Balou Du Rouet X Feinschnitt Vd Richter).
The top three riders were all within margins of each other, with Great Britain’s Robert Whitaker trying his best for the win, but he and his 13-year-old Holsteiner gelding Catwalk IV (Colman X Corleone) also couldn’t catch Ahlmann’s time and settled for a 3rd place in 45.50 seconds.
Nicola Philippaerts of Belgium was 4th with H&M Zilverstar, and the USA’s Lucy Davis was 5th aboard Cassis 54.
Home rider Max Kühner kept achieving good results for Austria, finishing in 6th position after clearing both rounds riding Chardonnay 79. All six riders, and Meredith Michaels Beerbaum with Comanche as well who placed in 7th, jumped clear in the jumpoff.
