Aboard the 9-year-old Zangersheide stallion Tobago Z (Tangelo van de Zuuthoeve x Mr. Blue) Daniel Deusser topped the Léon Melchior Zangersheide Sires of the World on Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at Jumping Mechelen in Mechelen, Belgium.

Deusser was best in the two-round competition that produced four, double clear rounds among the 30 combinations that started in the Zangersheide Sires of the World, a test for stallions aged 8 years and older.

In an exciting jump-off of ten pairs, Deusser proved that he belongs to the absolute. With Tobago Z  he stayed clear and was three seconds faster than the youthful Belgian rider Rachel Steffen with Uncanto di Villagana, who placed second.

Damien Haelterman was 3rd aboard Hooligan de Laubry, and Great Britain’s Jack Whitaker was 4th with Valmy de la Lande. Belgium’s Gregory Wathelet had the fastest time of the jumpoff and it would have been the winning time, if not four an unlucky four faults aboard MJT Nevados S.

Deusser is looking stronger and stronger with the Stephex Stables-owned Tobago Z. In October, Deusser and Tobago Z won the Grand Prix at the CSI5 *-W in Oslo and were 3rd in the Grand Prix of CSI5*-W Helsinki a week later. All other combinations that tried to go faster went wrong and had to be content with places of honor.
