Denmark’s Emilie Martinsen wins Prix Jump Five in Chantilly…

Denmark’s darling, Emilie Martinsen and Pacome Des Plains won the opening class of Longines Global Champions Tour of Chantilly by just 0.07 seconds from Alexis Borrin (FRA) and Ruby de la Fosse in second. Jane Richard Philips, who was just announced on the Swiss Team for the World Equestrian Games in six weeks time, and Pablo de Virton took third place. Only six riders jumped clear in the introductory class of the show as riders familiarised themselves with the huge grass arena ahead of the feature Grand Prix tomorrow afternoon.

This is Emilie Martinsen’s first CSI5* Global Champions Tour win of the season and it looks as though the Danish rider is enjoying the ride on her new mount Pacome des Plains. The Danish rider is based in London, stabling her horses with Britain’s World No.2 Ben Maher. Fresh off the summer season at Spruce Meadows, Emilie seems to have started the second half of her summer season in Europe, with a win.

This weekend’s course designer, Uliano Vezzani, built an inviting course utilising every part of the expansive arena which sits overlooked by the beautiful Chateau Chantilly. Riders hoping to claim maximum points in the ninth round of the 2014 Championship took advantage of the opportunity to show their Grand Prix horses around this spectacular venue, where tomorrow the stands will be packed with the knowledgable and enthusiastic equestrian French crowd.
