Dutchman Wout-Jan van der Schans wins Queens Cup Grand Prix of Barcelona….

The Netherlands Wout-Jan van der Schans rounded off a tremendous weekend in Barcelona, Spain by winning Sunday’s € 55,000 Queen’s Cup; the Segura Viudas Trophy. With the 11 year old Dutch gelding Capetown, Wout-Jan was the reserve rider for the Dutch team that won Saturday’s Furusiyya Nations Cup Final. But Wout-Jan did not watch from the sidelines on Sunday, taking center stage as he won the CSI5* Grand Prix, beating out Germany’s Daniel Deusser, Spain’s Edouardo Alvarez Aznar, France’s Jerome Hurel and Belgium’s Pieter Devos, to name a few.

Twelve riders qualified for the jump-off out of a total of forty-five entries. Competition was tight and it was mere fractions that separated the top two riders, as Wout-Jan crossed the finish line only 0.07 seconds ahead of runner up Daniel Deusser on Angelstone Partner’s Pironella. Spanish rider Edouardo Alvarez Aznar and Rokfeller de Pleville Bois Margot finished third, France’s Jerome Hurel and Quartz Rouge finished fourth while fifth place went to Belgium’s notable Pieter Devos and Couscous van Orti.
