The opening competition of Horses & Dreams meets Austria CSI4* in Osnabruck, Germany went to the Italian speed demon Emanuele Gaudiano, who took 1st place on Thursday, April 27, 2017 in the 5,125 Preis der Performance Sales International GmbF CSI4*.

The 1.40m speed class attracted 66 starters to its entry list, with 20 of those jumping clear. A further eight pairs jumped clear on a single time fault.

The margins at the top were not razor thin, with Gaudiano jumping his winning round in 62.75 seconds. He was riding Einstein, and 8-year-old KWPN gelding (Clinton x Nimmerdor) that he has been bringing along himself since 2016. While he’s picked up several, successive wins with Einstein at the CSIYH and CSI3* level, most recently at Arezzo, Italy this month, the day’s victory at Horses & Dreams was his first, CSI4* win.

Germany’s Lars Neiberg came 2nd aboard Olivia la Sweet in 63.14 seconds, while Andrzej Oplatek of Poland placed 3rd with Light My Fire 7, in 64.82 seconds.

The start list was heavily stacked with German riders, which promises to be a theme through the weekend as riders gear up for Sunday, and Monday’s finale classes.
