Emanuele Gaudiano of Italy was in winning form for the first, feature class of Jumping Antwerp CSI5* in Antwerp, Belgium on Wednesday, April 20, 2017.
The 1.50m single round speed competition attracted 38 riders, eight of whom went clean. The 7th and 8th riders-Nadja Steiner and John Whitaker–placed in a tie with a perfectly even time of 72.50 seconds. But it was Gaudiano and the OS gelding Chalou (Chacco Blue x Baloubet du Rouet) who took the winning time in 67.35 seconds, once again proving why he is one of the fastest riders in the world. With this time he was over a second faster than Brazil’s Pedro Veniss, who placed 2nd with For Felicia in jumped 68.55 seconds. Constant van Paesschen of Belgium finished in 3rd place with Calore van de Helle in 68.62 seconds.
In this class riders got the chance to qualify themselves for the Jumping Clash Challenge that will be ridden later this week. The best four riders of the class will return to ride the first bracketed rounds of the Jumping Clash against four seeded riders.
In 4th place, Patrice Delaveau of France was the last rider to qualify for the Jumping Clash. He and Aquila HDC cleared the course in 68.82 seconds. Colombia’s Dayro Arroyave and Uppercut Libellule placed 5th.
