The Netherlands Harrie Smolders is enjoying his time on the West Coast, taking the $125,000 Villas at Rancho Valencia World Cup Grand Prix of Del Mar this weekend. Riding Regina Z, Smolders secured the win ahead of American rider and previous World Cup Finals winner Rich Fellers riding the 18 year old Flexible. If winning wasn’t enough, Smolders also secured third place aboard the 10 year old Belgian-bred gelding, Enjoy Louis. Recent winner of the Longines Grand Prix of Los Angeles, Jos Verlooy finished tenth riding Domino for Belgium while Ireland’s Darragh Kenny, having earned plenty of acclaim this year for his numerous results, finished seventh with his World Equestrian Games mount Imothep.
