Saudi Equestrian has announced that Olympic bronze medal winner HRH Prince Abdullah Bin Miteb will retire from international competition and the Saudi Equestrian team. Prince Abdullah, a grandson of King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, has been at the forefront of showjumping in Saudi Arabia for over a decade and has represented his country on numerous occasions. As well as being an integral part of the bronze medal winning team at the London Olympic Games in 2012, Prince Abdullah won individual and team gold at the Pan Arab Games in 2007 and was also part of the gold medal winning Saudi Equestrian team at the Asian Games in 2006 and 2010.

Ziyad Abduljawad, Managing Director of Saudi Equestrian said,; “HRH Prince Abdullah has been a highly valued member of the Saudi Equestrian team and a great ambassador for the sport in Saudi Arabia for many years. His enthusiasm and superb riding skills will be greatly missed by the team mates who he has competed alongside since he was a teenager, as well as the many friends he has made within the equestrian community over the years.”

He continued; “The way in which Prince Abdullah and his three teammates represented Saudi Arabia at London 2012, riding with smiles on their faces, and filled with obvious joy and pride in competing in front of 23,000 spectators won a great deal of praise, popularity and respect in the hearts and minds of all those who follow the sport, and I am personally immensely proud of what he has achieved whilst representing his country.”

Prince Abdullah will continue to be involved in elite equestrian sport as Patron of the three-week King Abdullah Show Jumping Festival, the highlight of which is a CSI5*-W competition, staged at NOFA Equestrian Resort near Riyadh each year.
