Germany’s Lars Nieberg has made the accent from the German B-squad to the Championship squad. Together with his 11 year old mare Leonie W, Nieberg earned top placements in the World Cup qualifying events in London (GBR), Mechelen (BEL), Leipzig (GER) and Zürich (SUI); finishing in third place in Leipzig, Germany. The two-time Olympic Gold medalist has a successful history with the German Championship squad.

Nieberg participated in the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, where he won a gold medal with Team Germany, together with Franke Sloothaak, Ulrich Kirchhoff and Ludger Beerbaum. Nieberg again won a gold medal in Team Jumping at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, together with Marcus Ehning, Otto Becker and Ludger Beerbaum. Lars came close to a podium finish at the 2000 Olympic Games, finishing fourth individually with Espirit FRH. In addition, Lars also won Team Gold at the 1998 World Equestrian Games in Rome, Italy

This year, fellow team members are Christian Ahlmann with Taloubet Z and Codex One, Ludger Beerbaum with Chaman, Chiara and Zinedine, Daniel Deusser with Cornet d’Amour and Evita van de Veldbal, Hans-Dieter Dreher with Embassy II, Marcus Ehning with Plot Blue and Cornado NRW, Carsten-Otto Nagel with Corradina and now, Lars Nieberg with Leonie W.
