Meredith Michaels-Beerbaum & Fibonacci 17 compete at CHIO Aachen, July 2016.
There has been a last minute switch up to the German Show Jumping Team; Marcus Ehning and Cornado NRW have elected to voluntarily withdraw from participation after Cornado NRW took a bad stumble in Saturday’s show jumping training session.
The 13-year-old Westfalian stallion was examined by team vets and found to be unfit to compete in the Individual 1st Qualifier/Team Qualifier for Round 1 of the Rio Olympic Games in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil.
“After consultation with our team veterinarian Jan Hein Swagemakers we have decided that the risk of use of Cornado NRW is too big,” said German coach Otto Becker.
The German Team’s traveling reserve pair of Meredith Michaels Beerbaum and Fibonacci 17 will step into the team position, replacing Ehning and Cornado NRW in the Rio Olympic Show Jumping competition.
In the lead up to Rio, Michaels-Beerbaum and Fibonacci 17 have been in top form, most recently jumping double clear in the Furusiyya FEI Nations Cup at Hickstead on July 29th. They also notched double clear rounds at CHIO Aachen, and CSIO La Baule, earlier in the season.
The Individual 1st Qualifier/Team Qualifier begins today, August 14th, 2016 at 10:00am local time/9:00amEST at Deodoro Equestrian Center in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil.
