Horse & Hound reports that Olympic-bound Michael Whitaker of Great Britain suffered minor injuries after falling from a horse at his home in England on Monday, July 26th. Whitaker was schooling at home when his horse spooked and lost its footing.

Whitaker made contact with the arena rail, which gave way as he fell, leaving him with a cracked rib and heavy bruising.

Whitaker was on the squad to compete for Great Britain in Friday’s Furusiyya FEI Nations Cup at the Royal International Horse Show in Hickstead, but the decision was made for him to take Friday off from riding. He plans to return to competition on Saturday at Hickstead. The updated Great Britain team list for Friday’s Furusiyya FEI Nations Cup at Hickstead are Scott Brash with Hello Guv’nor, Ben Maher with Diva II, Tim Stockdale with Fleur De L’Aube and Jessica Mendoza with Spirit T.

The five-time Olympic veteran  says the accident will not deter his plans to compete with Cassionato at the Olympic Games in Rio next month.
