Heavy rains and reports of snow that have persisted over Europe for days have caused conditions to deteriorate so much on Wednesday, April 27 at CSIO5*-NC Lummen, Belgium that it’s being reported that the decision has been made the call to cancel Friday’s scheduled Furusiyya FEI Nations Cup, which was to be the first Europe Division 1 Nations Cup of the 2016 season. Already on Wednesday morning, the CSI2* classes in the garden arena had been cancelled.
The stabling at Lummen has been bogged down with thick mud, and the venue’s grass field has absorbed heavier than usual amounts of rain, too much to dry out for Friday’s schedule of classes.
This official statement from the show organizers is as follows:
“The FEI delegates decided to cancel the CSIO5*. It would be impossible to change the program of the CSIO5*, a competition for the Furusiyya FEI Nations Cup series, division I.
The CSI2* and the CSI1*, two competitions that started already will continue. On Saturday the DERBY OF FLANDERS and the SIX BAR will take place as planned.
The Belgian championship for 7 years old horses starts on Thursday.”
