The Knokke Hippique CSI5* started on Thursday, 30th June, in Knokke-Heist, Belgium with home riders earning the top placings.

It was Belgium’s Nicola Philippaerts who took the win in the €30,000 CSI5* 1.50m presented by Sovaro. He produced the fastest time out of the 14 riders who managed to get a clear round in the class, scoring a time of 60.44 seconds riding the 12-year-old Selle Français gelding H&M Quenzo De La Roque (Kannan X Jasmin).

After winning the first CSI5* class of the show earlier in the day riding Carielle, fellow Belgian rider, and last year’s Grand Prix winner Jérôme Guery tried his best to beat Philippaerts’ time to earn another win, but he finished two seconds behind in 62.35 seconds, to settle for 2nd place aboard the 14-year-old Zangersheide stallion Papillon Z (Perhaps X Cassini I). The grey stalltion was also Guery’s winning mount in last year’s most important class of the show.

Switzerland’s Steve Guerdat earned 3rd place riding the 10-year-old Dutch Warmblood mare Albfuehren’s Happiness (Heartbeat x Lambrusco Ask), finishing in a time of 63.17 seconds after being 2nd in his first class with his other horse Dioleen.

Fourth place went to Belgium’s Niels Bruynseels riding Gancia de Muze in 63.65 seconds and 5th place was for Italy’s Emanuele Gaudiano riding Guess 6 in 64.24 seconds. Gudrun Patteet also placed well for Belgium, getting a 7th place riding Sea Coast Atlantic in a time of 65.59 seconds.
