Paul Estermann & Castlefield Eclipse. Ph. One Shot
Paul Estermann collected top honors on home turf during Friday, September 9th’s Beau Rivage Palace CSI5* feature competition at the Longines International Horse Show of Lausanne, on the banks of Lake Geneva in Switzerland.
Estermann was aboard his veteran mount Castlefield Eclipse, a 14-year-old Irish Sport Horse by Obos Quality. The jumpoff class to heights of 1.45m drew a start list of 48, and produced a jumpoff of 16 pairs.
Of those 16, a full ten were double clear, making the end result a display of riding separated by fractions of a second. Estermann and Castlefield Eclipse crossed the finish timers in 35.20 seconds, with France’s Maelle Martin finishing close behind in 2nd aboard Giovani de la Pomme, on a time of 35.42 seconds.
The USA’s Lucy Davis was back in the office in her first competition appearance since winning Olympic Team Silver at the Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games in August. She placed 3rd with Boucherom, a 10-year-old KWPN mare (Guidam Sohn x Quick Star).
The scenic competition with a warmup arena adjacent to Lake Geneva has attracted a strong lineup of riders who will by vying to qualify for Sunday’s Grand Prix Longines Ville De Lausanne CSI5*.
