Following the sixth leg of the 2014 Longines Global Champions Tour season, it is Australia’s two-time Championship winner Edwina Tops-Alexander who maintains her lead in the overall standings, however Sweden’s Rolf-Goran Bengtsson has closed the gap with his second place finish this evening aboard Casall ASK. The two-time season winner is ranked number one on the Longines Global Champions Tour overall standing after finishing 5th in the Grand Prix of Cannes riding Ego van Orti. Collecting 37 points for her second place finish in the Grand Prix of Shanghai, aboard her new mount Old Chap Time, Edwina was, prior to Monaco’s Grand Prix result, the only rider on the current Season standings to have collected points at each leg of the current GCT season. Today however, the top-ranked Australian finished 21st in the Grand Prix of Monaco with Old Chap Time, and thus, did not collect any points towards her season rankings lead.
“It’s exciting because so far we have a new winner at each event” said Edwina today in Monaco. “As you can see the points are really close, we are only half way there so there is a lot that can happen and that’s making the whole Tour this year really exciting. It’s going to be pretty open at the end.”
