Chile’s Samuel Parot and Atlantis decisively won the $35,000 Hollow Creek CSI 3* Speed Cup at the Lexington International CSI 3* on Thursday, May 25, 2017, the spring highlight of the Split Rock Jumping Tour in Lexington, KY, USA.
Parot and Atlantis bested a field of 43 entries to claim the win in a blistering time of 66.21 seconds. “My horse is very fast and very careful,” said Perot, who runs Parot Horses in Wellington, FL. “He had a two-week vacation and he is very fresh and happy. We won the Grand Prix here last year and I am going to try and do it again.”
Second to Parot was French Olympic veteran Eric Navet with Signe Ostby’s Basimodo. Navet and the 11-year-old KWPN gelding completed the course in 68.93 seconds. Navet, the 1990 World Show Jumping Champion, had taken the lead from U.S. Olympic veteran Margie Engle, Wellington, FL, who had held it for most of the class. Her time of 69.29 seconds with Gladewinds Partners’ Bockmanns Lazio had seemed to be unbeatable. When she was bested by Navet by a mere 0.3 seconds the crowd was sure they had seen the winning ride, so when Parot turned in a ride 2.72 seconds faster, the crowd went wild.
Parot has had a great season so far in 2017 with wins at several major competitions. “I like this show and have had luck here,” said Parot. “We will see what happens.”
