France’s Simon Delestre and Chesall Zimequest powered to a turbo-charged win at the final day of the Longines Global Champions Tour of Rome CSI5*, beating a world-class field to finish a four-day spectacle of show jumping.
Since the premiere of the event in Italy’s capital, Delestre and Chesall have won three CSI5* classes at the venue.
“Chesall did a fantastic job today. It’s his third time coming to Rome – every year he’s won a big class here, so it’s fantastic to have a horse like him,” said Delestre. “I’m very proud today. Rome is a fantastic city. We’ve been lucky with the weather this year and it’s great to be here – so to win like this is something special.”
On Sunday, September 24, 2017, blue skies set the backdrop for the €92,000 class, with Italy’s own Uliano Vezzani designing the 13-obstacle-course for the final day of competition. Forty three riders took to its track, with 15 qualifying for the jump off round. Of that number, nine secured clear rounds, with Delestre producing the winning time of 33.80s.
In 2nd place, Ireland’s Denis Lynch and RMF Bella Baloubet finished in a time of 34.90. In 3rd, the newly-formed partnership of Germany’s Daniel Deusser and Cornet finished in a time of 34.76.
