Steve Guerdat has announced via his website that the talented mare Albfuerhen’s Paille has been officially retired.

Guerdat paired with the then, 12-year-old Selle Francais mare (Kannan x Dollar Du Murier) to win the 2015 Longines FEI World Cup Jumping Final in Las Vegas, USA. It was the first World Cup Final victory for Guerdat of Switzerland after eight previous attempts. Guerdat went on to win a second World Cup Jumping Final, this year aboard Corbinian.

Albfuerhen’s Paille suffered a minor tendon strain after the 2015 final, and made a brief comeback to competition in September 2015 before being again sidelined with injury. Her rehabilitation was closely and carefully monitored, but it was ultimately determined that the best future for her would be to happily live out a well-earned retirement. Guerdat thanked the mare’s owner Mr. Frey for putting the well-being of his horse first, and expressed gratitude for their partnership.
