19 year old Reed Kessler is selected as one of the 10 riders on the official short list for the 2014 Word Equestrian Games
The United States Equestrian Federation (USEF) has named 10 show jumping athletes to the Short List for the 2014 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games. Athletes named to the Short List will compete on U.S. teams in Nations Cup competitions at CSIOs Spruce Meadows ‘Continental’, Rotterdam, Aachen, Hickstead, and Dublin.
The following 10 riders have been named to the Short List (in alphabetical order):
- Lucy Davis (Los Angeles, Calif.)
- Katie Dinan (Wellington, Fla.)
- Margie Engle (Wellington, Fla.)
- Kent Farrington (Wellington, Fla.)
- Lauren Hough (Wellington, Fla.)
- Charlie Jayne (Elgin, Ill.)
- Reed Kessler (Lexington, Ky.)
- Beezie Madden (Cazenovia, N.Y.)
- Jessica Springsteen (Colts Neck, N.J.)
- McLain Ward (Brewster, N.Y.)
Selection was conducted over two phases with Phase I concluding in December 2013 and Phase II in April 2014. Learn how each athlete was selected to the Short List below;
Phase I
In accordance with the Selection Procedures for the 2014 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games Show Jumping Team, the four highest-ranked athletes on the December 6, 2013 Rolex/USEF Show Jumping Average Ranking List were named to the Short List. They were Kent Farrington, Reed Kessler, Beezie Madden and McLain Ward.

Phase II
In accordance with the Selection Procedures for the 2014 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games Show Jumping Team, the highest-placed U.S. athlete in the final overall standing of the 2014 Longines FEI World Cup Jumping Final, who has not already been selected for the Short List, and finished within the top 10 was named to the Short List. That rider was Charlie Jayne.
In accordance with the Selection Procedures for the 2014 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games Show Jumping Team, the three highest-ranked athletes on the April 25, 2014 Rolex/USEF Show Jumping Ranking Horse List have been named to the Short List. Those riders are Lucy Davis, Lauren Hough and Jessica Springsteen.

In accordance with the Selection Procedures for the 2014 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games Show Jumping Team, the Chef d’Equipe in consultation with the Selectors and Team Veterinarian will use discretion to name two athletes to the Short List. Robert Ridland has chosen Katie Dinan and Margie Engle.
