McLain Ward & HH Ashley compete at the 2016 Winter Equestrian Festival
After a long and successful career under several champion riders, Double H Farm’s great campaigner HH Ashley will is being retired to Van Overis Stud in Belgium.
From 2010 through 2012, the 16-year-old, German bred Hannoverian mare (Acorado I x Chasseur I) was ridden by Brazil’s Rodrigo Pessoa. Together, Pessoa and HH Ashley jumped to clear rounds in the 2011 Pan American Games in Guadalajara, Mexico. They won the 2010 World Cup Grand Prix of Harrisburg and picked up international victories at CSIO Rotterdam and Washington DC.
As an experienced second horse for McLain Ward, HH Ashley claimed multiple Open Jumper and Speed victories during the subsequent years of her career. Double H rider Maggie Mcalary gained experience in the ring this season with HH Ashley, during the mare’s final outings.
“She was a great horse for a long time, for multiple riders at Double H,” said Quentin Judge of Double H Farm. “Everyone loves her, and when we have a great mare like this, we want to give her the best retirement possible.”
At Van Overis Stud, HH Ashley will begin a second career as a broodmare.
“Van Overis Stud has a great breeding operation and a very professional environment,” Judge added. “We’re going to work with the Van Overis team through the fall, and try to breed her next spring. She herself is so careful and has a lot of scope, so any stallion that would enhance that more, and give her a little more size would be ideal!”
